Onion Sour Cream Tartlets, Tartlet Appetizer Recipe (photograph)

these mini tartlets are made of cutout rounds of bread, baked then filled with caramelized onions, doesn't that sound tasty?
an easy hors d'oeuvre, you can make them in advance and finish the next day.
They are handy to serve when guest drop by or use them to start a gourmet dinner party,
they go great with a good bottle of chilled white wine

Makes 12 Appetizers

6 slices thin white bread, crusts removed, rolled flat
2 cups yellow onion, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons water
Salt and pepper, to taste
2 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 cup sour cream
3 tablespoons snipped chives

Cut two 3-inch circles from each bread slice; press neatly into a greased mini muffin tin.  Bake at 370° for 7 minutes or until lightly brown.
Can be made 2 days ahead, covered at room temperature.

In a skillet over medium heat sauté onions in butter and water stirring constantly until caramelized.  Remove from heat, add salt, pepper and dried thyme.

In a small bowl mix together sour cream, chives, salt and pepper; spoon into tartlets, top with caramelized onions and serve.
